Miket Egyptian or Nubian Goddess?

Abstract

This article is a study of Miket, a minor goddess of the Egyptian pantheon associated with the area between Ele- phantine and the Second Cataract. Her name is problematic, because it is not clear whether it is Egyptian or Nubian, which, in turn, has cast doubt on her origin. Her association with the southern Egyptian and northern Nubian border does not seem to help to answer the question. Through the analysis of the theonym and the documentation of the divinity, we seek to shed light on this problem.

تُتناول هذه المقالة دراس ًة لميكت، وهي إحدى المعبودات الثانوية في المعتقدات الدينية المصرية، وتُرتُبط بالمنطقة الواقعة بين جزيرة إلفنتين والشلال الثاني. يُثير اسمها إشكالي ًة، إذ لا يزال من غير الواضح ما إذا كان ذا أصل مصري أم نوبي، مما يُثير تُساؤلات حول أصلها وهويتها الثقافية. ولا يبدو أن ارتُباطها بالحدود الجنوبية المصرية والشمالية النوبية يُسهم في الإجابة على هذا السؤال. ومن خلال تُحليل اسمها وتُوثيق المصادر
